Detroit Tigers at Baltimore Orioles Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, Maryland April 6, 2011 Tigers 7, Orioles 3 BOX
It looks as though the malaise that demonized Justin Verlander during the month of April has been exorcised. He was smooth tonight. In the eight innings that he pitched he gave up only three runs on four hits. He struck out nine. SMOOTH!
Verlander didn’t even allow a hit until a home run from Derek Lee in the fourth inning. SMOOTHER!
Honestly, more than a few of his pitches looked magical tonight. SMOOTHEST!
Victor Martinez, after some adjustments in batting style, hit a home run. Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila did, too.
Speaking of Avila, he had an absolutely stellar night. He went 3 for 4 with a double. The home run he hit was his first this season. It came in the fourth inning against Baltimore starter Brad Bergesen. It was a two run blast that put the Tigers up 4-0.
He had five RBI’s.
THE HOME OPENER
Are you keeping an eye on the weather for Friday? If you are going to the game, take an umbrella with you, it looks like you will need it. I watched our local Detroit area weather man, WDIV-TV’s Chuck Gadica (whose forecasts I like) and his radar map showed morning rain, however we might get a break in the afternoon. Possibly enough of a break to play baseball. Keep those fingers crossed!
Don’t forget that you can click on the “Countdown To Opening Day” photo to the right to get the latest weather for Opening Day.
If you can’t make it to the game, you can still catch the televised home opener on Fox Sports – Detroit and also on Fox 2. Game time is at 3:05 p.m. ET.
